Dr. M. Edip Gurol is a vascular neurologist and researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on cerebral small vessel diseases of the elderly such as cerebral amyloid angiopathy, conditions that increase the risk of both hemorrhagic and ischemic cerebral events in affected individuals. He uses advanced neuroimaging techniques to clarify the molecular mechanisms of these microangiopathies.
Dr. Gurol’s clinical focus is stroke prevention in the high risk patient, i.e. patients with a hemorrhage prone cerebral small vessel disease as well as concomitant high embolic risk such as atrial fibrillation.
