Johannes Sebastian Mutzenbach, MD is a neurologist at the Department of Neurology at the
University Hospital of Salzburg specializing in cerebrovascular diseases.
Dr. Mutzenbach grew up in Munich/Bavaria, Germany, where he completed his
undergraduate studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and graduated at the
Technische-Universität in Munich. From December 2000 to May 2004 he worked as medical
resident and as medical assistant at the Department of Neurology at the university teaching
hospital München-Bogenhausen.
He continued his term as medical assistant from May 2004 at the Department of Neurology
at the University hospital of Salzburg, where he completed his residency in neurology in
November 2006. In 2010 he finished the education for the additive specialist Intensive Care
in Neurology.
He is senior consultant of the stroke unit, contact person at the local outpatient clinic for
neurointervention and cerebrovascular diseases, and deputy head of the Department of
Neurology since april 2016.
His research focuses on cerebrovascular diseases, including new treatment options in
neurointervention and ischemic strokes, neuroimaging, spinal ischemia, acute-therapy
orientated diagnostics, and studies in global transient amnesia, and telestroke medicine in
Salzburg.
In addition to his scientific work, he teaches at the Paracelsus Medical University.
Dr. Mutzenbach is board member of the Austrian Stroke Society, and member of the
Austrian Society of Neurology.
